Hi Ladies
Our March General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 3rd March 9.30am at
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion known also as The Blue Mansion at 14 Lebuh Leith,
10200 Georgetown.
Our guest speakers will include Ms Loh-Lim Lin Lee, Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson
and Ahmad Chik, three prominent Penang personalities and active members of
the Heritage Trust.
They will talk to us on Heritage conservation issues as in a round table
debate and you are all welcome to ask any question or comment on their
presentation.
I have prepared a short list of questions to kick-start the debate. I
welcome any addition to the list.
- Why the need to preserve Penang's architectural heritage?
- Is conservation the idea of a minority elite or the wish of the people at
large?
- Is restoration compatible with the continued existence of the local
population and traditional trades?
- Are there lessons to be drawn from the examples of other UNESCO listed and
other historical sites/towns (Luang Prabang, Hoi An, Bali, Siem Reap, etc.)?
- How can the people at large influence the political leadership into more
commitment?
- Is there a community-based interest in preserving heritage (Nonya, Malay,
Chinese, Indian) and how can the various groups be merged into one more
effective lobby?
- What ways and means does the PHT have in promoting Penang's Heritage
conservation?
Please let me or Penny know if you will be attending as the Blue House
management need to know our numbers at least two working days before (so,
early Monday morning at the latest).
Price is RM 35.00 per person for members and RM 40.00 for non members. This
will include refreshments.
I hope to see you all there.
